Growing up, sketching was an outlet I used to express myself. Traveling and my love of the outdoors were two of the biggest parts of my life. These adventures began molding and influencing what I drew. From trips around town or across the country, the idea of mapping and drawing everywhere I had been through a sketchbook journal of sorts was appealing and kept me coming back to fill the next page.
Over the years, the combination of these two lifelong desires culminated into the profession of Landscape Architecture, of which I’m a part of today. Being able to create places whether large or small, brings the sketches alive in the built environment. Landscape Architecture allows me to create destinations people want to travel to. I believe sketching gives root to ideas and provides the opportunity to improve with every confident stroke of the pen, and they need to be shared.
Today, Traverse City, Michigan is where I call home with my wife and children. This place has become my ultimate adventure. While raising a family in Northern Michigan allows me to bring back my childhood for my children, it also reminds me of God’s beauty everyday, and everyday I am reminded of his glory in the beautify landscapes he has created.
